History of Jhalana Leopard Reserve
Jhalana Leopard Reserve, located very near to Malviya Nagar, a developed area of Jaipur city, is probably the smallest protected wildlife area in India. The total area of this protected forest is only 24 square kilometers. This forest area, with a population of about 38 leopards, is rapidly making its mark on the world stage.
Situated in the Jhalana area of Jaipur, this forest area was used as private property by the Jaipur royal family till 1860. At that time the number of wildlife in Jhalana forests was very high, so members of the royal family used to come here to play hunting.
Apart from members of the royal family, people from the surrounding villages used to come to collect wood, fodder and their necessities for their livelihood. For the first time in 1862, the British appointed Dr. Brandis as the I.G. of this forest to establish systematic management in this forest.
Jhalana Leopard Reserve Wildlife
Jhalana Leopard Reserve is a natural habitat of leopards, and the leopard is also the most commonly found wildlife in the Jhalana forest. Jhalana Leopard Reserve has gained very fast popularity among wildlife lovers and tourists in a very short period due to a large number of leopards and the availability of other wildlife.
Jhalana Leopard Leopard Reserve is divided into three parts, with the most likely to see leopards in the “Shikar Ki Hodi” zone. Apart from leopards, wildlife like Chital, Desert Fox, Striped hyena, and Golden Jeekal are also found in this Leopard Reserve. Some local bird species are also found in this reserve such as dusky eagles, owls, spotted owls, and Indian Pitta.
Jhalana Leopard Safari Ticket Price
The entry fee for Indian tourists in Jhalana Leopard Safari has been fixed at Rs 386 / – (with Gypsy) per person and the entry fee for students has been fixed at Rs 356 / – (with Gypsy) per person. The entry fee for foreign tourists has been fixed at Rs 600 / – (with Gypsy).
Additional fees may be charged for going to the “Shikar Ki Hodi”. Jhalana Leopard Safari also offers Half Day Safari and Full Day Safari for which additional fees are charged. Jhalana Leopard Safari may have a change in its entry fee. Booking from Jhalana Leopard Reserve’s ticket window would be more appropriate than booking Safari online.
Best time to visit in Jhalana Leopard Reserve
As such, Jhalana Leopard Safari is open for tourists throughout the year. But after the rainy season, the time from November to March is the best time to visit Leopard Reserve.
