Laxmi Narayan Mandir – Places to visit in Dalousie
The Laxminarayan Temple, located about 52 kilometres from Dalhousie, is one of the oldest temples near Dalhousie dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This ancient temple was built in the 10th century (between 920 and 940 CE) by King Sahil Varman.
The temple consists of a total of 06 small and large temples, out of which the idols of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Brahma Ji have been installed in 03 main temples. According to historical evidence, the idol of Garuda in this temple was built by King Balabhadra and the peak of the temple was built by King Chhatra Singh.
According to a legend associated with the construction of the temple, 08 sons of King Sahil Varman were killed while searching for a suitable stone for temple construction. Yugakara, the eldest son of King Sahil Varman, succeeded in finding a suitable stone for temple construction with the help of a saint. A special type of marble stone is used in the statue of Lord Vishnu installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
