The city of Dwarka, situated on the banks of the Arabian Sea in Gujarat, was built by Lord Krishna. It is believed that Lord Krishna had obtained a piece of land from the sea to establish a city at this place. Now there is a mythological event that is associated with Lord Krishna and his wife Rukmini.

According to the legend, once Durvasa Rishi came to the city of Dwarka. When Lord Krishna and his wife Rukmini get information about the arrival of Durvasa Rishi to Dwarka, they both go to the gate of the city to welcome the Durvasa Rishi.

After welcoming Rishi Durvasa at the city gate of Dwarka, Lord Shri Krishna and Goddess Rukmini leave to take him to the palace. The city gate is located at some distance from the palace, due to which Goddess Rukmini Devi gets tired and sits at one place and asks Lord Krishna for drinking water.

Lord Shri Krishna makes a hole at that place at the same time and the water of river Ganga starts flowing in that hole. But seeing all this here, Durvasa Rishi gets very angry, and in this anger, he curses Goddess Rukmini that the place where she is sitting will always remain in that place.

At present, the place where the Rukmini temple is built in Dwarka is said to be the same place where Durvasa Rishi cursed Goddess Rukmini.

Presently Dwarka is a coastal city in the Indian state of Gujarat, situated near the Gaumati River and the Arabian Sea, as well as a district headquarters. Apart from this, Dwarka is one of the seven oldest cities (Saptapuri) of India, due to which this holy ancient city is also called Dwarkapuri.

The direct relation of this city is related to Dwapar Yuga. In the Dwapar era, Lord Krishna established his empire at this place located near Gujarat and made the capital of his empire by settling in the city named Dwarka. Presently, the Dwarkadhish temple located in Dwarka is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Hinduism, this temple is also a part of the most important religious Chardham Yatra of Hinduism.

Along with being an important religious pilgrimage site, many mysteries are also associated with Dwarka, about which scientists have not yet received much information. Some such research has come to the fore, according to which it is believed that the original city of Dwarka has drowned in the sea.

For the first time in the year 1963, the work of sequestration of this city was done jointly by Deccan College Pune, Department of Archeology and Government of Gujarat. During this exploration, the explorers found about 3000 years old utensils.

About a decade after this discovery, the Archaeological Survey of India, its underwater archaeology wing, found some copper coins and granite structures from the Arabian Sea near Dwarka. After a long hiatus, in the year 2005, the work of unveiling the hidden secrets of Dwarka is once again started.

This time the Indian Navy is also involved in this search. In this search operation carried out in the Arabian Sea, the explorers collect about 200 samples of many cut stones from the depths of the sea. To date, scientists have not been able to decide which is the original Dwarka city which was settled by Lord Shri Krishna.

Even today, scientists and explorers make efforts from time to time to solve the mysteries related to the city of Dwarka, imprisoned in the depths of the ocean. Lord Krishna was born in Mathura and spent his childhood in Vrindavan, but he established his kingdom in Dwarka, thousands of kilometres away from these two places.

While ruling in Dwarka, Lord Shri Krishna established religion in the whole country. That is why even today in our Hindu religion, Lord Shri Krishna’s birthplace and Karmasthali are equally revered. And when it comes to the question of faith, according to it, the original city of Dwarka was submerged in the sea with the death of Lord Krishna.

Apart from this, it is also believed that Lord Krishna had come to know long ago that Dwarka was going to drown in the sea, so he had got the entire Dwarka city evacuated a long time ago so that there would be no loss of life.
