The Valley of Flowers, located near Govindghat in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is one of the most famous treks in Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of only 3352 meters (10997.38 ft) to about 3658 meters (12001.31 ft) above sea level, the Valley of Flowers is part of the Nanda Devi National Park as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Spread over only 87.50 square kilometres, the Valley of Flowers is open for tourists throughout the year only from June to October and remains closed for the rest of the year due to excessive snowfall. And this is the reason why the best time to visit the Valley of Flowers is from June to October.

From all the treks in Uttarakhand, you can see very picturesque views of some of the other prominent peaks of the Himalayas, but the Valley of Flowers is such a trek where you can see more than 500 species of flowers at a time. Valley of Flowers Trek

Starting from Govindghat in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, the Valley of Flowers trek is considered a moderate trek. Despite being a moderate trek, it is preferred by both beginners and experienced trekkers. And the main reason for this is the unforgettable beauty of the Valley of Flowers, apart from this, some of the pilgrims who come to visit Hemkund Sahib also prefer to trek to the Valley of Flowers.

Because there is not much difference between the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The trek to the Valley of Flowers is open only from June to October in a year due to heavy snowfall in the winter season.

The time of the year when the Valley of Flowers trek is done, the monsoon also comes here, that is why you should be extra careful while doing this trek because in recent years the chances of landslides occurring here during the monsoon are very high. has increased. The trek to the Valley of Flowers is a total of 35-40 kilometres long, which may take you 4-5 days to complete.

Overall, if you do not have any serious physical problems, then you can easily complete this trek. Still, if you are planning to trek the Valley of Flowers, then you should start walking 4-5 kilometres a few days in advance so that you do not face any kind of problem while trekking.

Day One of Valley of Flower Trek

To start the trek to the Valley of Flowers, you have to reach Govindghat on the first day. Govindghat is located at a distance of about 270 kilometres from Rishikesh. And if you are going to Govindghat by your private vehicle then you can reach Govindghat from Rishikesh via Devprayag-Srinagar-Rudraprayag-Karnprayag-Gopeshwar and Joshimath.

Apart from this, if you are doing this trek with any trekking agency, then they make arrangements for your reaching Govindghat in advance, you just have to reach the place fixed by them on time.

Apart from this, if you want to reach Govindghat by bus, then you will find bus service available to Govindghat from Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun and Delhi’s ISBT bus station. You will also get a shared taxi facility from Rishikesh to Govindghat.

Taxis from Rishikesh to Govindghat charge anywhere between Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000, which is shared equally among all co-passengers.

Day Two of Valley of Flower Trek

On the first day after reaching Govindghat from Rishikesh, you can take a night’s rest here. If you have come to do this trek with any trekking agency, then they make arrangements for you to stay in Govindghat in advance and if you have come alone or with your friends to do this trek, then you have to make arrangements for you here in advance.

Room booking should be done in the hotel. After a night’s rest at Govindghat, you will reach Ghagaria on the second day of the Valley of Flowers treks. For this, you will have to leave Govindghat early in the morning for Pulna, which is located at a distance of 04 kilometres from Govindghat.

You can take local taxis to reach Pulna from Govindghat. It is not allowed to go to Pulna in your private vehicle, apart from this you can also reach Pulna from Govindghat on foot. After reaching Pulna, you have to start the trek on foot to Ghagharia. The total track distance from Pulna to Ghagharia is 09 km. It may take you around 5-6 hours to complete this trek.

Day Three of Valley of Flower Trek

On the second day of the Valley of Flowers trek, you reach Ghagaria via Pulna via Govindghat. After completing the trek on the second day, you have to spend the night at Ghagaria. During the Valley of Flowers trek, Ghagaria is a place from where the routes for both the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib diverge.

On the third day of the Valley of Flowers trek, you can wake up early in the morning and start the trek from Ghagaria to Valley of Flowers. The distance from Ghagaria to Valley of Flowers is around 04 km. But you have to keep in mind that you have to return to Ghagaria from the Valley of Flowers before evening.

Because no tourist is allowed to stay overnight in the Valley of Flowers. For this reason, you have to trek a total of 08 kilometres on the third day of the Valley of Flowers trek.

Day Four of Valley of Flower Trek

If you have extra time on the fourth day of the Valley of Flowers trek, you can also visit Hemkund Sahib from Ghagaria. The distance from Ghagharia to Hemkund Sahib is only 06 km. If you come to Hemkund on the fourth day of the trek, then the duration of your trek program will increase by one day.

And if you wish, on the fourth day of the Valley of Flowers trek, you can also return to Govindghat by trekking 09 kilometres to Pulna.

Day Five of Valley of Flower Trek

On the fourth day of the trek, after an overnight stay at Govindghat, you can leave for Rishikesh from Govindghat the next morning. If you are doing this trek with any tracking agency, then they make arrangements for your return back to Rishikesh in advance. Apart from this, you can also return to Rishikesh by bus or in your private vehicle.

Note:- If you are not an experienced trekker then you should not do the Valley of Flowers trek without any trek guide or any tracking agency.

Valley of Flowers Trek Route

The Valley of Flowers trek begins from Govindghat itself. When you start the trek from Govindghat, the first thing you have to do is reach Pulna by taxi. The distance from Govindghat to Pulna is only 04 km. From Puna, your trek to the Valley of Flowers begins.

From Puna, you reach Ghagaria by trekking about 09 kilometres on foot. After that, you will have to trek another 04 km on foot to reach the Valley of Flowers from Ghagharia. You may have to walk another 06-07 km to get a better view of the Valley of Flowers. Overall, the trek to the Valley of Flowers is about 35-40 kilometres long, which may take you 4-5 days to complete.

The Valley of Flowers Trek opens for general tourists and trekkers only in the last week of May or the first week of June in a year. And in the last week of October or the first week of November, this trek is closed for general tourists and trekkers.

Overall, this trek remains open for trekkers for only 05 months in a year, the remaining 07 months this trek remains closed for trekkers due to snowfall here. By the end of May, the snow starts melting in this valley. And after that in June new flowers start blooming here slowly.

And by July, these flowers bloom completely, due to which this valley does not look less than a paradise. And you see such heavenly views in August and September as well. But by the end of September, it starts getting cold here and snowfall also starts in October.

Because of this the valley that looks like heaven is once again covered in a blanket of snow. Therefore, when you go to visit the Valley of Flowers, July to September is considered the best month for you. For the rest of the year, it rains here and there is also a possibility of landslides. That’s why when you go trekking here, you must take full care.

The entry fee for the Valley of Flowers National Park has been fixed at Rs.150/- for Indian tourists and Rs.600/- for foreign tourists. The entry ticket for Valley of Flowers National Park is valid for 03 days.

For this Indian tourists have to pay Rs 50/- extra and foreign tourists have to pay Rs 250/- extra. For professional cameras, Indian tourists have to pay Rs.500/- per day and foreign tourists have to pay Rs.1500/- per day.

Valley of Flowers Trek Cost

There are many trekking agencies in cities like Uttarakhand, Delhi and Chandigarh that offer treks to the Valley of Flowers. Almost all trekking agencies have experienced trek guides. It takes 4-5 days to complete the Valley of Flowers trek, some agencies also do the Hemkund Sahib trek along with Valley of Flowers, so the duration of your trek may increase by 01 day.

Almost all trekking agencies charge the cost from the pickup point to the Valley of Flowers trek. Almost all tracking agencies let you know in advance the pick-up and drop points of the itinerary. The approximate cost of the Valley of Flowers trek ranges from INR 8000 to INR 10000.

How To Reach Valley Of Flowers By Air

Due to its high altitude, there is no direct air service available to the Valley of Flowers. Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun is the nearest airport. The distance from Jolly Grant Airport to Govindghat, the nearest town to the Valley of Flowers, is just 303 km. From Dehradun, you can easily reach Govindghat with the help of buses, cabs, taxis and shared taxis.

Apart from this, Govindghat can also be reached from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport with the help of taxis and cabs. The distance from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport to Govindghat is only 528 km. Apart from this, a helicopter facility is also available from Govindghat to Ghagaria. Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport are well connected to all major cities of the country.

Rishikesh and Haridwar railway stations are the nearest railway stations to Govindghat. Buses, taxis, cabs and shared taxis can be easily reached from Rishikesh and Haridwar to Govindghat.

The distance from Rishikesh to Govindghat is just 266 km. And the distance from Haridwar to Govindghat is just 288 km. Rishikesh and Haridwar railway stations are very well connected to almost all the major railway stations of the country.
